MENTALIST BRETT BARRY FAQ
General Questions
A Mentalist is a mystery performer (like a magician) that creates the illusion of mind reading. Its a type of psychic entertainment that is extremely popular right now - and people of all ages and backgrounds love it because the focus is not on the trick - but on the actual thoughts and choices of the people participating. This is magic of the mind: creating the illusion of influencing choices and picking up on thoughts using simple everyday props. Nothing is staged- and no one is a stooge or audience plant. Unexplainable things will happen.
Brett Barry does not claim to be psychic - be he does try to create what feels like a psychic experience.
Psychic entertainment is the idea of creating a show that feels like the performer anticipates or reads thoughts - in real time. What might it feel like if one could actually pick up on someone else's thoughts? To know the name of someone's favorite pet when they grew up - or the name of an old friend.
All of us are somewhat intuitive, and many probably agree that we all have mental abilities that are largely untapped. We have all experienced moments of anticipating what a friend or loved one is about to say or when they are about to call on the phone.
Brett Barry seeks to explore the thoughts & abilities of his audiences. Brett's stage or parlor show is about the audience members and their participation.
A great show! Whether big or small, no two shows are exactly alike, because the show is audience driven. No one will by hypnotized. No one will quack like a duck (unless they want to). Brett will not communicate with anyone's dear departed grandma.
Mentalist Brett Barry makes NO psychic claims other connecting with the audience, and offering a uniquely entertaining show for all. The premise is to take the audience on a journey into the unexpected. Are the thoughts and decisions from the audience, or are they his? Perhaps they are a mixture of both?
There are NO accomplices, plants or "stooges" in the audience ever. Everything that happens is real time.
This show is about the audience. The only goal is memorable entertainment!
Brett Barry is a full time corporate Mentalist (psychological entertainer) and he is excited to bring his unique show to beautiful Sedona - one of the most unique and magical places on Earth.
Brett is highly intuitive, but he does not claim to be a psychic or medium. However psychic abilities do run in the family, and Brett's Aunt Wendy Barry in LA has been doing psychic readings and tarot professionally for over 40 years with an amazing list of celebrity clients.
As an aside, Brett Barry says that he doesn’t read minds – he reads people. Prior to performing, he had a successful 25+ year career in sales (Real Estate Broker) before re-inventing himself in 2013 to become a full time entertainer. As you might expect, Brett's "people skills" now come in quite handy for his shows.
Performing is a 2nd act in Brett's life, and show business is in Brett's family DNA going back to the mid 1930's. His grandfather DAVE BARRY (the late comic & actor, not the writer), is best known for his memorably hilarious role as Mister Bienstock in the classic Billy Wilder film “Some Like It Hot,” with Marilyn Monroe. Dave Barry was also the opening comedy act for Wayne Newton (1970-1990) in Las Vegas for over 2 decades.
Brett has graced the stage using his mentalist skills across the USA for companies such as Skechers, GoDaddy Schindler Elevator, and multiple times for The Arizona Cardinals. He is also a creator & consultant and acted as a source of ideas for actor Neil Patrick Harris and Magician David Copperfield among many more.
Brett gets this question all the time, and the difference is that magicians perform illusions and tricks. Brett loves a good card trick as much or more than anyone, but Brett's focus is on the thoughts and decisions of the audience or individuals he meets.
Brett loves magic, and has acted as a consultant to the world's most famous living Magician (David Coppperfield). But Brett does NOT do magic - rather he performs illusions that involve the mind - both seemingly picking up on thoughts + apparently predicting the future, He makes NO psychic claims however - and everything is designed with fun entertainment "in mind."
Nope. Hypnosis is not part of the show.
Hmmm. Let me concentrate.

TYPES OF SHOWS
Mingling / Parlor / Stage / Trade Show
Good question! There are numerous show options, and some show options can be combined - so please call us and inquire for your specific event. Below are some of the most popular show options, but there are many more possibilities that can be curated to your event. Please inquire so Brett and his team can discuss your needs.
MINGLING SHOW can run anywhere from 1 to 3 hours, and is ideal for cocktails at any event big or small - or an intimate event with 25 or less. Brett can usually stroll and perform for small groups of 2-8 people at a time - doing two or three effects for each small group and then moving on. Brett can work with about 60 people per hour for larger groups, and he seeks to bring people together which is perfect for corporate mixers.
PARLOR SHOW is a seated 30 to 60 minute show for approx 15 to potentially 100 guests. This is a genuine more intimate show with music, and for this kind of show Brett requires a quiet & decent size space to perform in front of the group (after the meal). Brett usually includes mingling at cocktails as part of this show option. Brett will usually do a site visit to check out your space to make sure it will work well.
STAGE SHOW is Brett's bigger show option for groups of 100+. The show length can run anywhere from 30-75 minutes. This show option always includes 1 hour of mingling entertainment at the cocktails hour, which allow Brett to meet some of the audience and sometimes (internally) ascertain who some of the best people might be to bring on stage for the show itself after dinner.
TRADE SHOW BOOTH is Brett's corporate convention booth "magnet" option where he can incorporate your messaging or product features into his entertainment. The idea is to help draw customers into your booth (for leads and badge scans) so it stands out, and also take care of existing customers with some memorable high impact entertainment.
No, a show during the meal is not a good idea.
Why? Because based on extensive experience, no one attending an event wants to watch a show while food is being served. Its always best to have Brett start his show after the meal is completed plates are cleared.
Brett had a very successful 25+ year background in sales (residential real estate) before becoming a full time performer. For corporate events (both small or big) he can furnish a customized show tailored to your company/ employees or industry with motivational ideas incorporated within his overall show.
No, Brett's entertainment is really not suited for kids under about 16 years old.
Brett's specialty is corporate and clients seeking the highest quality unique entertainment. His material is always classy and in good taste, but based on experience Brett he does not recommend attendees at the shows if they are less than 16.
